From Fire to Freedom: The Alchemy of My Life

As I approach my 50th birthday, I do so not just with pride — but with awe for what I’ve alchemized in this lifetime.

I’ve turned generational struggle into generational change.

I’ve transformed teen motherhood into matriarchal wisdom.

I’ve reshaped career setbacks into divine redirection.

I’ve faced heartbreak, loss, and burnout — and emerged with deeper faith, greater purpose, and unwavering clarity. I’ve learned to honor the sacred in my scars and the strength in my softness.

Born on the South Side of Chicago, I was raised in an environment that demanded I become strong, fast. And I did. But strength alone wasn’t the destination — it was the beginning of a much deeper becoming.

Through every twist and trial, I chose to rise.

The Sacred Act of Reclaiming My Identity

In 2021, I changed my last name — not to distance myself from my past, but to own the woman I had become. That moment marked the beginning of a powerful transformation. I was no longer asking for space — I was claiming it. Now, I relaunch JoyTutor as more than a business. It’s a sanctuary. A safe haven for women rising through transition, seeking clarity, and finding joy again after life’s hardest chapters.

On May 31st in Queens, NY, I will stand in the fullness of my truth and publicly honor my return at the 2025 JoyTutor Celebrations of Courage Awards — an empowering evening dedicated to women who lead, rise, and heal out loud. This year, I will receive the Resilience Award — a recognition I give to myself, for myself. After decades of pouring into others, this is a moment to pour into me. I’m not just honoring the miles I’ve walked — I’m celebrating the woman who kept walking.
